Debasish Mridha
32nd District Senator
State
Background Although a successful physician, Dr. Mridha came from very humble beginnings in Bangladesh. He called a tent at a war refugee camp in India home for four years before attending school in the Ukraine on a full scholarship. Dr. Mridha and his wife came to the U.S. in 1991 with $300 in their pockets. Today, his neurology and pain management clinic has cared for thousands of Saginaw area residents.
A firm believer in giving back to the community, Dr. Mridha’s generous donations to Saginaw and the surrounding areas include renovating the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit waiting room at Covenant Hospital, establishing several scholarships for Michigan students and sponsoring needy families during the holidays.
Among his many philanthropic and community associations, Debasish Mridha, M.D. serves on the SVSU Foundation Board, the Michigan State Medical Society Foundation Board and is President-elect of the Saginaw MSMS chapter. He resides in Saginaw Township with his wife Chinu and six-year-old daughter Amita who attends St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School.
Upon completion of his residency at Wayne State University, Dr. Mridha was recruited by hospitals all over the country. It was during one of those recruiting trips that Dr. Mridha first visited Saginaw and fell in love with the city and surrounding areas. He felt safe and believed that Saginaw had much to offer him and his family. Dr. Mridha is dedicated to making Saginaw and the surrounding communities a safer and more vibrant place to work, live and raise a family.
Opposing Candidate InformationDr. Mridha will face Dr. Kahn in the General Election on November 2nd.
Proposals A newcomer to politics, Dr. Mridha will represent Saginaw and Gratiot counties with integrity. Dr. Mridha firmly believes in leading by example during these difficult economic times and will be the only State Senator to refuse a paycheck.
As a small business owner and job creator, Dr. Mridha knows the importance of maintaining a budget in these challenging economic times. His entrepreneurial spirit has saved many jobs in Mid-Michigan and he will fight to bring good-paying jobs back to the area. Dr. Mridha is passionate about allowing businesses to thrive and putting people back to work.
The Saginaw Valley has been hard hit by this economic recession and Dr. Mridha can empathize with middle class families. He promises to protect funding to public safety and education and will work hard to enact foreclosure protections in order to help Saginaw area families thrive.
