Saginaw Township has long been considered a bastion of Republicanism, but it is becoming increasingly obvious that, in the words of Bob Dylan, "Times They Are A-Changin'".

This political shift has certainly been inspired by Barack Obama's Campaign For Change- and provoked by the monumental failures of the Republican Bush Administration. These national developments have had an impact this year in the township- as they have throughout the country. Yet, in many ways this progressive movement in Saginaw's suburbs began in 2004, with the first time candidacy and surprising election of a young mother and Michigan Tech graduate with strong principles and a willingness to back them up with action. After a hardworking door-to-door effort, Amy Seaver was elected to the Saginaw Township Board of Trustees, the first Democrat ever elected to that post. Her 2004 win has encouraged others to challenge in traditionally Republican areas, setting up what looks to be a watershed year for Democrats.

Four years later, she is again among the contenders for four positions on the board. There are five candidates. She is the only Democrat on the ballot for the position.

It is crucial that every Democrat and progressive cast their ballot for Amy Seaver. She should also be the choice of the independent voters who insist on picking the "best candidate" available. In this season of disillusionment among Republicans, she is also someone with whom all Saginaw Township residents should feel comfortable in placing their trust.

She has now served four years, working with the board and township employees to keep the community safe and prosperous. She is committed to the health as well as the wealth of Saginaw Township, and has the vision to take on the toughest challenges- social, economic, and environmental- of a community undergoing great change.

On November 4th, Amy J. Seaver is the best choice for Saginaw Township Trustee.
