Editor, The News:
I have heard an awful lot from the Roger Kahn campaign about how important he feels it is for elected officials to protect minors. If this is indeed the case, why is it that Roger Kahn couldn't find the time to show up for three bills that did this very thing?
Kahn missed the vote that requires individuals on the sex offender registry to notify local law enforcement when they plan to vacate a current residence, job or school. It also increases penalties for second violations of sex offender reporting provisions.
Kahn missed the vote that requires criminal background checks for licensees, employees and contract workers of child care centers.
Kahn missed the vote that would allow evidence about past convictions of certain sex crimes perpetrated against a minor to be introduced in a criminal trial for a similar offense.
For all the hue and cry from the Kahn campaign about the importance of this issue, you would have thought he could find the time show up, unless Kahn is just using this issue to shock voters into supporting him on Election Day in the tradition of the lowest common political denominator.
Add these missed votes to his opposition to education, and do you really believe Roger Kahn cares about children, or are they just a campaign prop for him?
